FAQ

Charges

Admission to Leistikowstraße Memorial is generally free of charge for individual visitors. However, if you would like to support the Memorial, you are very welcome to make a donation in the Visitor Information Centre.

Planning Your Time

We recommend allowing at least one hour for a visit to the permanent exhibition, as it offers a lot of information presented in a variety of ways.

Children

If you are coming here with children, please make sure that they behave in a way that is appropriate to a place of this kind. Furthermore, the basement cells of the former prison have a very oppressive atmosphere in places, so we recommend that you do not take children down there unless they are at least twelve years old.

Backpacks, Bags and Clothing

In the interests of building preservation, visitors are required to deposit their bags and backpacks in the lockers before entering the exhibition. These are located in the Visitor Information Centre and are operated with a 1 Euro coin (returnable). The former prison building is poorly heated in cold weather, so we recommend that you wear suitable clothing.

Photography and Filming

Visitors are permitted to film and take photographs in the Memorial for personal use only. For professional and commercial work, a permit must be obtained in advance from the public relations officer.

Toilets

The visitors' toilets are located in the basement of the Visitor Information Centre. In addition, there is a toilet for disabled visitors on the ground floor.

Eating / Drinking / Smoking

Leistikowstraße Memorial is a place of remembrance dedicated to the people who suffered here. We therefore ask visitors to refrain from smoking and consuming food or drink in any part of the premises.

Bicycles

If you come by bike, please do not park it in front of the entrance or along the front of the building. Instead, use the bicycle racks along the south side of the visitor information centre (to the right of the entrance door).

Dogs

Please bear in mind that dogs – with the exception of guide dogs – may not be brought into the former prison grounds.
