The Soviet Intelligence City "Military Town No. 7"

Duration: 60 minutes | Minimum age recommendation: 15 years

Structural relics and traces of the almost fifty-year use of the Nauener Vorstadt in Potsdam as a secret service area for Soviet military counterintelligence are still visible today. The aim of the guided tour is to make these visible to visitors and to give them an understanding of the history and structures of this almost self-sufficient "military town".

A true-to-scale model in the courtyard of the former remand prison shows the secret service city in its spatial and historical context, with its proximity to prominent places such as Cecilienhof country house or the Berlin Wall. It will become clear that this was a focal point of the Cold War.

The tour then leads past the former administrative headquarters of the counterintelligence service, the meeting hall of Soviet military tribunals and the residence of the head of the secret service, among other places. Historical photos reveal the extensive structural changes to these former villas. Furthermore, relics of a large memorial complex and Russian-language tree carvings bear witness to the everyday life of the secret service staff and soldiers stationed here.
